10 peaks for the armchair mountaineer
ForbesTraveler.com came up with a list that they describe as “10 peaks that even amateurs can try.” It includes world class mountains that are summitable without technical climbing skills – and are thus within reach of those who have the ambition, are in shape, and are willing to travel. I’ve got 2 out of the 3 covered… I wonder if that counts?
The list ranges from popular to exotic, and oddly includes 2 mountains that the article advises you NOT to climb due to local and religious significance.
- Mt Washington, NH
- Mont Blanc, The Italian and French Alps
- Kala Pattar, Nepal
- Mount Ararat, Turkey
- Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
- Mount Fuji, Japan
- Uluru, Australia
- Mount Kailash, Tibet
- Mount Tukuhnikivatz, Utah
- Mount Olympus, Washington
That is quite the to-do list.
Even though the average weekend warrior will not get a chance to see many of these, it is nice to get some ideas. Jess and I, for example, have been flirting with climbing Kilimanjaro for our belated honeymoon.
