    About Us

In 2009 we sold the home we loved, packed up everything we owned (including a 75 gallon tank full of fish!), and said goodbye to our life in Boston to chase a wild dream... move to the Adirondacks!

    About the Adirondacks

The Adirondack Park in Upsate NY is the largest park in the contiguous United States. Its 6.1 million acres are a unique blend of public and private lands that encompass an area larger than that of Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Glacier, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Parks combined.

About Dave | About Jess | About Towns and Trails | About the Adirondacks

Hi. We’re Dave and Jess.

We love to hike and climb and ski and paddle and go on really long road trips.

Here we are during a day of ice climbing just this past winter.

And here we are back in 2004 right before our first Northville-Placid thru-hike, which is where we fell in love. True story.

In 2009, after years of living and working in Boston, we decided to risk it all and move to the Adirondacks. We even bought a log cabin. See?

It was the best decision we ever made.

And then, as if our lives had not already been completely upended, we got a dog.

And then another dog.

And, finally, one more dog.

In addition to the cat – and very large tank of fish – we brought with us.

We really enjoy our new life. And we love sharing it with all of you. Thanks for stopping by!

About Dave

As Vice President of technology for a large Human Services non-profit, I spent years building the infrastructure that would allow my organization to connect remote offices and employees. Eventually, it dawned on me that I too could be taking advantage of my efforts. So now I telecommute from the Adirondack Mountains. Hard to beat that, right?

I love everything about our new home. From the very concept of the “Great Experiment”, to the landscape, to the towns, the people, and yes… even the winters. I truly feel that this Park can be the example for how humans successfully coexist with our environment, and am happy to be a part of it.

I enjoy hiking… but am not a fan of blisters or bugs. Climbing, paddling and skiing put a smile on my face. As do animals, gadgets and punk rock. Charles Darwin, Carl Sagan, and Kurt Vonnegut are my heroes. Possibly in that order.

In general I am more of a destination guy, but am trying oh so hard to appreciate the journey.

How you can help us recover from Irene

Tropical storm Irene brought flood waters and destruction to several Adirondack communities.
