Sunburned? Activate Your Emergency Locator Beacon
This will give the “you should pay for your own rescue” people some fuel.
After one night in the Alaskan wild, two men from the Washington DC area activated their emergency locator beacon and requested an early extraction from the State Trooper float plane that investigated.
The reason? They were unprepared for the Alaskan summer solstice daylight.
“[They] claimed that they had been sunburned,” troopers wrote in a dispatch. “They were unprepared to deal with the long day length and any further exposure to the sun. They had activated the beacon in an effort to get extracted ahead of schedule.”
