Bossman, M9 Climb Established in the Adirondacks
The 2010 Adirondack Mountainfest attracted world class climbers to the area for a weekend of presentations, lessons, and fun. Not surprisingly, some of the Adirondack’s toughest, unclimbed lines received the attention of participants – including elite alpinist Steve House.
But the real prize came a day after the festivities wrapped up. On January 18th Matt McCormick and Bayard Russell completed Bossman, a 3 pitch M9 climb, which is now one of the park’s hardest routes.
The first pitch climbs technical, steep terrain on turf shots and thin pick torques. Pitch 2 contains the crux, an extremely reachy move with chickenscratch for feet. The last, short pitch corkscrews behind a minor icicle then “worms out” onto the ice, McCormick said.
