When the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) released a report calling for the removal of the fire tower on Hurricane Mountain, Jess and I just happened to be sitting around trying to figure out what to do with our day.

These photos come from a long time reader, friend of the site, and previous content submitter. This was a day long flight around the Adirondacks in a plane that they own.

Standing over a pile of empty boxes and wrapping paper, Jess and I looked at each other and we knew what had to happen next.

One of the easiest of the Adirondack High Peaks to hike, Cascade Mountain is often considered a good starting point for those looking to experience a summit in the area.

The Chubb River has always been a bit of an Adirondack landmark for us. Reaching it signaled that we were close to finishing our Northville Placid thru-hikes. However, we recently had the opportunity to enjoy the river in another way.

I’ve driven by the trailhead more times than I can count, yet never stopped to actually climb Giant Mountain. With such an accessible trail, I was saving it for a time when my schedule was less flexible.
