I had grand plans for today. They involved climbing a High Peak and then drinking a beer while cleaning the house. What? Which part of that doesn’t sound like fun? Unfortunately for me, the first part of my plan failed miserably.

On a crisp, clear day, and with only a few hours to spare, we decided to head up to Giant’s Washbowl, a small pond that sits at 2300′ on the south slope of Giant Mountain.

When the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) released a report calling for the removal of the fire tower on Hurricane Mountain, Jess and I just happened to be sitting around trying to figure out what to do with our day.

Ok, folks, it’s still Way Back Week here at Towns and Trails. And it turns out I lied the other day when I said our Roaring Brook Falls adventure was my first winter trip to the Adirondacks.

The other day I was reminiscing about our Northville-Placid hikes and I remembered one of the best days we’ve ever had on the trail. It was during our section hike in 2005.
