Emile Hirsch Joins Kilimanjaro Charity Climb
The Summit on the Summit expedition first caught my eye back in October when I read that Justin Timberlake would be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. He had signed up for the adventure as part of an effort to raise money and awareness for the global clean water crisis. At the time I thought to myself, “No… friggen… way” – I’ve been trying to arrange a trip to Kili for a few years now, and the dude from N’Sync was going to beat me to it?!
Well, it turns out I still have some time if I want to beat JT to the top of Africa. While Timberlake is supporting the expedition and its cause, he will be unable to participate in the actual climb due to a scheduling conflict.
Picking up Timberlake’s slack will be ‘Into the Wild’ star, Emile Hirsch.
Hirsch is busy getting himself in shape for the challenge of climbing over 19,000 feet, which is far beyond anything he has tried before.
“The closest thing I have done was on the set of ‘Into the Wild,’” Hirsch said in reference to the 2007 film in which he played a young man who heads off to live in the Alaska wilderness. “The real challenge is gonna be the altitude. It’s kind of a roll of the dice as to how your body will respond to it.”
Hirsch will be joining Jessica Biel (who is dating Timberlake), Alexandra Cousteau (the granddaughter of Jacques) and a few other performers and activists on the climb.
