So long, Michigan! You were good to us. We began the long journey back to Boston, with a planned stopover in Niagara Falls, ON. The drive was uneventful, even the border crossing. We arrived in Niagara Falls in time for a walk down the main drag to the Falls and a late dinner.
Niagara Falls at night
I was totally unprepared for the cheesiness. Not of the Falls themselves, which were spectacular, but of the town. I mean, I KNEW Niagara Falls had a reputation as a tourist trap, but I didn’t expect it to be the Vegas of tourist traps. Neon lights, haunted houses and dinosaurs! Oh my!
Niagara Falls hotel with <3 shaped tubs.
Total Driving: 470 miles; 8 hours
Lodging:
- Sterling Inn and Spa, Niagara Falls, ON – I had high hopes for this place and I was slightly let down. Our room was modern, with a flat screen TV and jacuzzi tub, but I was not impressed with the cleanliness, the thin walls, or the ‘cheap’ finishes. They seemed to cut a lot of corners to achieve the look of a modern, upscale hotel.
Dining:
- Visitors Center Restaurant- I don’t remember the name of the restaurant and Google is not being kind to me. It was overpriced, as expected, and the food was just okay, but the view of the falls was fantastic.
