Thanks for stopping by! The job situation up here is tough – even more so than in the rest of the country. But that’s not to say there aren’t any opportunities.

Do you know what part of the Adirondacks you want to move to? And what do you do for a living now? The absolute ideal situation is to bring your job with you if it’s at all mobile. There are many areas within the park now that offer broadband internet access, making it really easy for telecommuters to set up shop from home. That’s what my husband is doing now.

If you’re thinking of moving to more of a tourist town like Lake Placid, the hospitality industry is a big employer. As are the retail shops on Main Street.

The other major employers within the park are the area hospitals. From what I gather, there is always a demand for nurses.

Because there is a relative scarcity of jobs, lots of people create their own economies and cobble together an income from multiple sources. Say a part-time job combined with a small side business or two. It works if you’re creative and willing to take on some risk.
