Star Trek was awesome… Cliffhanger next?
It might just be that the extra large Mt. Dew hasn’t worn off yet, but I am still giddy from seeing Star Trek last night. I LOVED it.
Of course I should disclose that I have a bit of trekkie in me and that I have been craving a good sci-fi film for what seems like years… so anything that didn’t involve Jar Jar was probably going to win me over. That said, I am notoriously skeptical of remakes, especially ones that stray from the original for superficial reasons (I’m looking at you Transformers). This movie, however, was really impressive. The details, the cast, the plot… all stayed appropriately true to the original while bringing a fresh and exciting new feel to it all.
So, now that StudioCanal did such a great job “rebooting” the Star Trek franchise… the next obvious target for them is… Cliffhanger!
Wait…. what?
Yep, you read that right. They are going to remake that early 90s action film that featured Sylvester Stallone (and costarred some impossibly faulty climbing harnesses). I have no idea what is motivating them to do this, but they have reportedly nabbed the producer of Fast and Furious to work on it.
From a climbing perspective I would love if this project results in some high budget/high quality (and hopefully real) climbing scenes. But it is hard for me to have high expectations here, it just seems like a cheesy blue screen train wreck waiting to happen. I guess we will see.
