The Adirondack Monsoon – photos and videos

The Adirondack spring monsoon continues.

In our part of the woods that meant another nasty storm last night followed by flash flooding. The sinkholes in our driveway have multiplied, and expanded.

And a section of Rt. 73 in front of our house is having some problems. As best as we can tell, one side of the road has been compromised. Crews are down there now cleaning up and assessing the situation. Traffic is limited to one lane.

By comparison, we are still pretty lucky though.

Our county (Essex) is estimating that damages are already up over $1 million and they are requesting federal assistance to rebuild. There have even been evacuations, like these in Keeseville.

Here is an image from the Town of Jay.

Homes and businesses are still being flooded too.

The local newspapers are capturing some intense images of the damage as well.

The Press Republican has a wild image of a car teetering on a washed out road in Moriah.

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise has some good ones of damage in and around Saranac Lake. Here are some images of flooding in the downtown area, including people canoeing around their shops, and here are some images of the Lake Flower Dam, which was recently opened to try to relieve pressure.

Probably my favorite visual of this recent flooding is this video of the Ausable River taken at Whiteface mountain: West Branch of Ausable River Raging

Raging is a good description. You can check out some of the resulting damage here: April Showers Bring…
