Whiteface Sleetfest
Remember yesterday in my Whiteface post when I mused that the warm-ish and drizzly weather we were experiencing at home would translate into “comfortable conditions on the mountain”? HA! I am such a hopeless optimist.
When we reached the mountain, the temperature was in the low-30s but the rain had not quite turned to snow (as the forecast had predicted) and we were stuck with a wet, sleet-filled, pea soup kind of afternoon ahead of us.
Dave, the hopeless pessimist between the two of us, was ready to call it a day before we even got started. I, of course, wanted to ski regardless of the gross conditions. How we work together is anybody’s guess.
As usual, though, we came to an agreement: He would ski for however long he could stand it and then retire to the lodge while I continued my fun. Good enough for me.
True to form, Dave was miserable for the first hour or two. I admit, the pelting sleet WAS a bit much. But after lunch, the weather seemed to let up a bit and we got in several more comfortable runs.
As you can see, we never got much of a view. But, sleet be damned, we still had a great time.

That’s why they call is Iceface! Went to school at Paul Smith’s and live in the Sacandaga area of Northern Saratoga County, but the wife and I were force to take some work in Central Vermont. Can’t wait to find something back in the Adirondacks again, can’t seem to get the hang of these Vermonters. Though had a nice time skiing the old Norwich University slopes.
Yeah, Whiteface sure does have a reputation. Dave grew up skiing around here, yet had never been to Whiteface because his buddies always refused to go – too icy!
Love Paul Smith’s. Such a gorgeous campus! It’s on our list to get over to the Interpretive Center before the looming budget cuts go into effect.
