Patagonia Down Hoody

Black Friday, Cyber Monday is for Outdoor Gear too!

Shopping season seems to start earlier and earlier each year – and lasts longer and longer. On TV this morning, a shopping analyst (can you imagine having that job?) said there is an actual term to describe this phenomenon – “Christmas Creep”. Sounds like a really bad B horror movie.

It may be annoying, but there is no denying that this is the time of year to get some killer deals.

And Christmas Creep…Black Friday, Cyber Monday… whatever the hell you want to call what is going on… is not just for Walmart groupies and home electronic dorks anymore. Outdoor retailers have been getting in on the action, and if you look in the right places you can grab some really solid deals.

Here are some general sales that are looking good:, 30% off →
REI Winter Sale, November 19-29, up to 30% select winter gear →
Eastern Mountain Sports, November 24-28, 20-50% →

And here are three specific deals that caught my eye – the first two I am going to take advantage of as soon as I am done typing this up, the third I wish I took advantage of:

Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody – Men’s
One of the best lightweight down jackets on the market right now. Works great on the trails and looks great around town. I never, ever see this item on sale… I know, because I have been coveting one for awhile.

Patagonia Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket – Men’s, $212.50 (usually $250.00) →

Kahtoola Microspikes
Kahtoola Microspikes are the go-to traction device for that “in-between” season. You know, that time when there is juuuuuust enough ice to make things sketchy in a section or two, but not really enough to justify carrying or walking around in full crampons. They do double duty around the house too, while shoveling or traversing icy driveways.

This isn’t a huge discount, but these are really popular right now and I don’t often see them on sale.

Kahtoola Microspikes, $47.96 (usually $59.00) →

Garmont Momentum Snow GTX Winter Boots
Wish I had held out for this deal.

The best blend of comfort, warmth, and weight in a winter boot I have ever found. If you are looking to ditch your big bulky cold weather hikers, or just want something to keep you warm while clearing the sidewalk this winter… it will hard to find a better boot for the price.

Garmont Momentum Snow GTX Winter Boots – Men’s, $99.99 (usually $139.95) →
